Spring: The Start of My Wellness Journey

Yoga

A New Journey

Spring has sprung!  I hope everyone completed their activity checklist from our Avera Employee Wellness website. My checklist is complete. Last week I did my Health Screening. The hardest part of that was the fasting … by the time I arrived at the screening, I desperately wanted a cup of coffee.

The screening staff was great. The process was quick, organized and very helpful. I was presented with the results of my screening and then met with an adviser. We reviewed the results, and I had a great ratio which means I should keep doing what I am doing … walking my dogs and trying to eat healthy every day. The website has great tips for us to try to incorporate into our everyday, busy schedule. Every morning when I come to work, I have in my email a HealthFitness tip. I hope you are taking advantage of this. If you don’t receive an email, it’s also out on the website on the home page.

Speaking of time, I haven’t devoted too much time to one of my goals of improving my flexibility. My goal was to do one hour of stretching a week. I am probably at about 15 minutes a week, which is more than I was doing before. So I would say my meter can inch up a bit on my long-range goal, but not nearly as far as I would like to be, so I’ll keep at it. I don’t want to try to do too many things at once, as I have a tendency to just quit and go back, so I want to keep it small and simple. I really want to get started with yoga, so I have set out on this journey to find the right fit for me.  I will keep you informed how that is going for me.

The spring weather makes you want to get outside and enjoy the weather … take a walk, ride your bike, weed your flowers. I planted a flower garden last fall, so I am anxiously waiting for it to start growing (I am praying that it starts growing or I will be replanting!). That’s what life is about some days, replanting, restarting, one day at a time.

Have a Blessed Easter.
